December 1938. A German research ship sailing under the Swastika flag glides through the Antarctic ocean in search of stone and ice samples. Geologists are looking for evidence to support the bold "global ice theory", according to which a comet was supposed to have crashed to Earth in prehistoric times and scattered the "original Aryans" all over the world.
In the Himalayas, the "Roof of the World", a Tibet expedition in 1938 was intended to produce new findings relating to early Germanic history. The Nazis believed in a Nordic master race that was supposed to have survived the demise of the legendary Atlantis. In Tibet - so the theory goes - these people of Nordic origin are supposed to have constructed the underground realm of "Shambalah - source of happiness", traces of which the expedition hoped to find.
The true facts behinds the Nazi expeditions have never been fully explained. Who financed them? Who planned them and why?
This documentary describes the exploratory expeditions undertaken by the Nazis at home and abroad, and with previously unpublished library material and statements by contemporary witnesses, members of the expeditions and internationally renowned historians and scientists, for the first time throws light on the mystery of these often bizarre operations. Unpublished film shots, propaganda films, written documents and photographs from public and private archives provide incredible testimony to the expeditions that were carried out in the Third Reich.
